Sharks do not belong in the scheme of animals which humans consider as cute and thus worthy of protection.
Sharks cannot defend themselves.
Only man has the freedom to fight for these fascinating creatures.
Why don't you stand up for sharks!
Once dominators of the oceans for millions of years, today sharks are endangered and fought by man on all fronts. They are hunted to boost the ego of sportfishermen. Their fins are cut off - often when they are still alive - and the remains of the helpless and suffering animal is thrown back into the sea where it dies miserably. Millions of them are caught because of the misconception that cartilage preparations prevent cancer. They are also fished for their meat or land in nets as bycatch (most of them dead from suffocation) and are thrown back into the ocean. Each day the natural nursery grounds where they rear their offspring are reduced through the destruction of many coastal areas through clearances and pollution.
